Books are a big part of our family life. Even my little ones love looking at and “reading” books daily. I am always keeping an eye out for books that will captivate, affirm, and encourage my kids in their faith, but this is a time when many kids need help with anxious thoughts and feelings. I’ve had Christie Thomas‘s Quinn books on my Amazon with list for a while now. I am so excited to finally get a chance to share this precious book that can help anxious kids grow in their faith.

Quinn’s Promise Rock

I fell in love with the Quinn books by Christie Thomas before I even read a word. The precious illustrations of the cuddly looking little owl on the cover captured my heart! I hope Christie one day licenses a plush Quinn!

Sydney Hanson created the illustrations of Quinn’s adorable owl family in Quinn’s Promise Rock. I really love her use of light in this book. The bright fireflies shining in the dark night throughout the pages seem like they are almost glowing.

Quinn’s Promise Rock shares the story of a father reassuring his child as she experiences normal childhood fears and the need for security. He uses object lessons in Quinn’s world to teach her three reassuring characteristics of God that can help anxious kids grow in faith .

FirstGod is like a mountain that never moves and provides a landmark to help her find her way.

Second, He is like a cave that protects her in the storms of life.

Third, He is like a tiny rock that you can carry with you wherever you go.

Extra Features

After the story, Christie Thomas includes an interesting fact about owls related to the story, and a note to parents about helping children with anxiety. She adds relevant scripture passages that parents can share with their children to help them through times of fear.

What a timely message for the world in which we live! Reasons to fear abound, and even children pick up on the negative things happening around us. We must all remember, like Quinn, that God is our only stable refuge.

We might even need to use Quinn’s father’s object lesson to help with anxious thoughts (for both our children and ourselves) and  carry a small rock in our pockets to remind us of our Heavenly Father’s stability, protection, and presence.

Quinn’s Promise Rock is recommended for ages 3-7, but the concepts taught are the building blocks of faith, not just for preschoolers, but for all children, teens, and adults.

Christie Thomas has published two books in the Quinn series so far: Quinn’s Promise Rock and Quinn Says Goodbye. Also check out her family devotional for little ones, Wise for Salvation, and find encouragement for helping your kids grow in faith at her website Little Shoots, Deep Roots.

I received this book in exchange for my honest review, but I had it on my Amazon wish list for a while and am so happy to add it to my home library!
