As Christians, we want others to know the joy we have in Jesus and to spend eternity with Him in Heaven. Some seem so far away from accepting the gift of salvation He offers. How can we help them take the next step in their walk with Jesus?
Many of us are hesitant to share our faith. We know we should, and we do really want to, but it can be hard!
What if we don’t know what to say, can’t answer their questions, say the wrong thing, offend someone, or push them further away?
So much pressure, right?
But God didn’t design it that way. We worry, yet the results are really not up to us at all. The Holy Spirit convicts, and God saves through faith in Jesus. We simply share–not perfectly, but faithfully.
We must learn to trust God to take our feeble attempts and use them for His glory, even if we never see the results.
Think of it this way. Every person is on a spiritual journey. Negative ten is against or indifferent to God. Zero is the moment of salvation. Ten is glorification–being made into the image of Christ. As we witness, God may use us to help someone take the next step toward salvation (-6 to -5), lead them to know Christ (-1 to 0), or help them grow in Christ (3-4).
God can provide opportunities, give us courage, redeem our mistakes, and do much more than we can ask or imagine; but one thing is for sure: God can’t use our silence.
So let’s pray consistently for those who do not know Christ, spend time in Scripture, and be ready for opportunities to share the greatest story ever told.
When and where can we share the gospel?
Be open to opportunities in everyday life.
As you go to work, to school, to the dentist, to the grocery store, the library, etc. ask God to show you those who need the hope of Jesus.
Share through written words.
Send texts, write social media or blog posts, share emails, mail handwritten letters, or make signs.
Use the popularity of video communication.
Video chat, record videos and text them to friends or upload on various platforms.
Share what others have produced.
Distribute gospel tracts, share links to gospel-centered videos, social media posts, and websites, and gift Bibles or books that point to Christ.
Personal conversation is what we usually think of when we talk about sharing our faith, but God has also given us so many ways to spread the gospel.
Remember, just be faithful and leave the results to the Holy Spirit. You may plant a seed that helps someone be more open to the gospel, water one already planted, or be a part of the harvest. You may not see the results this side of Heaven, but trust God is working.
