One of my very favorite Scripture passages is John 16:33. It reminds me that no matter what I face, Jesus has already overcome it. I can “take heart” or “be of good cheer” knowing His peace is mine. So many people are desperate for peace that only Jesus can provide. Pray these Scriptures to ask for God’s help when you need peace.

This morning I started a devotional study of Philippians with the First 5 App. I love Melissa Spoelstra’s definition of peace. “Peace is not the absence of conflict, but the inner assurance of spiritual confidence and contentment even in the midst of difficulties.“ 

As Christians, we know Jesus is the only source of true peace. When your heart is troubled, you can use these Scriptures to pray for peace for yourself and those you love.

When praying the Scriptures, I add a few words to make the verse into a prayer that asks God to fulfill His Word in my life and in the lives of my family and friends.

You might also consider praying these Scriptures for peace with your family. Ask God through His Word to calm your turmoil and strife. Make family prayer time into precious lifelong memories.

Scriptures to Pray When You Need Peace

These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

Father, help me experience peace in Jesus. Help me to take courage, knowing that you have overcome everything I face.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

Father, help me to be anxious for nothing, but to come to you in prayer about everything. Thank you that you hear my requests. Please fill me with your peace that passes all comprehension and let it guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus.

You will keep him in perfect peace,Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You. Isaiah 26:3 NKJV

Father, help me keep my mind on you and trust in you as you keep me in perfect peace.

Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. John 14:27 NKJV

Thank you, Jesus for giving me peace. Help my heart not to be troubled or afraid.

Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace always in every way. The Lord be with you all. 2 Thessalonians 3:16 NKJV

Jesus, you are the Lord of peace. Give me peace always in every way and be with me.

And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. Colossians 3:15 NKJV

Father, let your peace rule in my heart as I am called in one body with other believers. Thank you for your peace and for all your blessings.

Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13 NKJV

Father, God of hope, fill me with all joy and peace in believing in Jesus, that I may about in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

“The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace.” Numbers 6:24-26 NKJV

Lord, bless me and keep me. Make Your face shine upon me and be gracious to me. Lord, lift up your face on me and give me peace.

For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Romans 8:5-6 NKJV

Father, help me to live according to the Spirit and set my mind on things of the Spirit. Let me experience life and peace that comes from being spiritually minded through Jesus.

The Lord will give strength to His people; The Lord will bless His people with peace. Psalm 29:11 NKJV

Lord, I am one of your people. Thank You that You will give me strength and bless me with peace.

Great peace have those who love Your law, And nothing causes them to stumble. Psalm 119:165 NKJV

Father, help me love your law that gives peace that nothing may cause me to stumble.
