Sometime we end up shopping last minute for Christmas or birthdays and have to “just pick something,” when I really want to give gifts that are thoughtful and match the personality and interests of the special person in our life. This year I am working harder to plan ahead and help others as well! Several people in our family love creativity and express themselves through art. If you have someone like this on your gift list, check out these gift ideas for artists.

gift ideas for artists

1. Gel Pens

A new set of gel pens is a great start if you are looking for gift ideas for artists. Gel Pens are a hit at my house, and because my daughters use them so much, they always run out of ink. The more colors, the better. They use them for adult coloring books, drawing, and even decorating their school work.

2. Water color Pencils

Water color pencils are versatile and create beautiful aft work. Use them dry for drawing and coloring, moisten the tips to blend, or draw first then blend with a wet paintbrush. Be sure to check reviews to find a brand of water color pencils that blend well.

3. Water Color Paint

Every artist needs paint. Water color paint provides vibrant color with easy clean up, so it is a great idea for artists of all ages. You can create endless color combinations on a variety of mediums with water colors.

4. Pencil Case

Artists can keep their pencils or pens organized and carry their hobby anywhere with a pencil case. Instead just a box where everything is mixed, a pencil case has bands to hold individual colors, making it much easier to find a particular shade.

5. Paper and Canvases

Creative people need a variety of blank space to express themselves. Gift ideas for artists include various sizes of art paper and canvases.

6. Portable Easel

A portable easel takes up less room at home and can be used while traveling. Both stand alone and table top easels fold for convenience and keep artwork in place.

7. Doodle Books

Sometimes artists need a little help getting their creative juices started. I love doodle books for younger artists, but you can find them for teens and adults as well. These fun books include drawing ideas and suggestions for entertainment and practice.

8. Coloring Books

Children have always loved coloring books, but now adult coloring books are very popular and you can find a theme for just about any interest from Scripture to Doctor Who.  For some, filling those little bitty spaces is a fun, stress relieving experience. My teen daughter loves them. Also, try realistic and historical coloring books from Dover.

9. Light Board

For those who are a little more advanced, try a light board. Learning by tracing, and use tracing to make small changes such as in animation or book illustration. I’m not much of an artist, but I’ve wanted one ever since I saw them on Amazon deals a while back.

10. Gel Pad

An art teacher introduced my daughter to a gel printing a couple years ago. The printing plate from Gelli Arts is like a giant stamp for making multiple prints. Just paint on the gel surface and gently press a sheet of art paper on the design. Use multiple times, then clean with water. Beautiful, unique prints are easy to make and duplicate.

Show you love for the creative people in your life with gift ideas for artists.

Encourage them to develop and use their talents for the glory of Christ. Remember, our creativity is a part of being made in the image of our God. The world around us shows His amazing love of creativity and beauty.

He has made everything beautiful in its time. Ecclesiastes 3:11a NKJV

Remember, as Christians God calls us to do everything for His glory, even our art and our giving.

And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. Colossians 3:23
