orphan last birthday

*Today, on the other side of the world, our little girl turned five. There are so many things I wish I knew about this special day.

I wonder. . .

  • Did she wake up this morning feeling well and excited about beginning the day?
  • Was she dressed warmly enough with her blond hair brushed back in cute pigtails?
  • Did she celebrate with friends at her orphanage?
  • Was there a present and cake?
  • Did anyone tell her they were glad she was born?
  • Did she laugh and smile for the camera or maybe become camera shy?
  • Does she know her family faraway was thinking of her and wishing she were home?
  • Does she even know today is her birthday?

Today, on the other side of the world, maybe another woman, the one who gave birth to her five years ago, has these same questions.

Waiting for our girls

Waiting for our girls

Happy birthday, Sweetheart! I can’t wait to see your sweet smile and hold you in my arms. I want you to remember, you were never really alone.

A father of the fatherless and a judge for the widows, Is God in His holy habitation. Psalm 68:5

Today, on the other side of the world, our little girl turned five. There are so many things I wish I knew about this special day. One thing I do know: this will be her last birthday as an orphan.

*When I wrote this post, we were still waiting on our official permission from China. It arrived Christmas Eve, 2015. Today she is no longer an orphan, but a beloved daughter who loves birthdays!
