WEARY

Today’s Five-Minute-Friday topic is weary.

It should be an easy topic, for I am weary. Weary of all the adoption waiting. Weary of never-ending housework. Weary of sibling fighting. Weary of teaching. Weary of all the tragic news. Weary of daily life even sometimes.

So, that’s the bad news.

There is good news. The weary ones are the ones who Jesus calls. He says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and heavy laden.” There is a place near Jesus for me.

He doesn’t say, “Come and I’ll tell you what to do.” He says Come and “I will give you rest.”

Rest. Doesn’t that sound nice.

But it’s not a lazy rest. He says, “Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am meek and humble in spirit.”

We are in the yoke together. He pulls the weight with me— for me.

“You will find rest for your soul; for my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Thank you, Jesus. When I encounter others who weary like me, let me point them to you. I want them to remember, those who are weary can only find rest in you.

“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30
