12 cents

Ever since we made our adoption journey public, one little girl has been faithfully giving to help bring our daughter home. A couple times a month, Darcee, age 8, hands someone in our family a dollar, a few coins, or an envelope with a few bills. Most recently it was 12 cents. No, it doesn’t add up to much in the grand scheme of things, but each gift comes from a heart of love and reminds me of the widow who gave two mites. Jesus did not care about the amount she gave, but the attitude of her heart. She gave more than all of the rich people combined.

Darcee’s generosity comes from her stay-at-home mom who is faithfully teaching her to follow Jesus. Darcee’s mom, Tiffany, with the help of others in our church, organized a yard sale to help support our adoption and timed it so that my husband and I would not be a part of most of the work. She put in many hours of hard work both before and after the sale. Tiffany is already working on another local fund raiser to help bring our little girl home.

As parents, we are told that more is “caught” than “taught.” My friend is being the hands and feet of Jesus, and her daughter “caught” her attitude of giving.

Although teaching through loving words is vital to godly parenting, our children will imitate our actions. May God help me show that kind of love, beginning at home, because I want them to remember that love is more than words.

Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth. 1 John 3:18 NASB
